Chapter 17
William’s POV
Scarlett looked at me in confusion, her brow furrowed and her lips red. She wasn’t wearing lipstick; it was just her natural color. I moved away from her not to make her uncomfortable, clearing my throat subtly. I had acted like an idiot; I didn’t think about how my reaction would affect her. I just spoke and let myself be carried away by the moments I’ve lived with Mérida.
She always got angry about trivial things, causing me stress and making me stop talking to her for hours. She never cared, just ignored the situation. When Scarlett yelled, for a moment I forgot I was with her and blurted out what I would have said to Mérida—the girl I don’t love, don’t like, and detest as a person. She wasn’t someone I got along with; she wasn’t someone I liked to be around. On the other hand, the woman I met in Vegas is different. She makes me laugh, listens to my complaints, taught me to pull pranks and stay out late, showed me I could have moments of freedom.<
