Chapter 24

The answer simply slipped from Elena’s lips.

Nathan frowned. “What?”

Elena steeled her heart, looking at Nathan with a flat expression. “My feelings are dead. I’ve been hurt enough by love, Nathan. I don’t want to feel it again.”

Nathan was silent.

For the first time, he felt like he had been slapped by reality.

Elena gently pushed Nathan’s hand away. “I’ll go now.”

Without waiting for a reply, Elena strode quickly out of the room.

Nathan stared hard at the closed door, then clenched his fist.

Brak!

Nathan’s fist landed on the wall.

Damn it! Why would he be this weak in front of a woman?

Elena walked out of Nathan’s apartment, breathing heavily. Her chest still felt tight.

Why had she said that?

But wasn’t that the way it should be? She couldn’t let herself fall in love again. The wounds from Damian were still too deep, and now she was pregnant. There was no place for stupid feelings like love.
