Chapter 28
After Mila said goodbye, Elena walked down to the lobby. Her shoes were wet from the puddles on the front steps. Her hair was starting to get damp, even though she hadn’t really stepped out from under the canopy roof.
Elena stood on the sidewalk, trying to order a taxi through the phone app. But everything was marked “unavailable.”
“Geez, not like this,” she muttered, sighing softly. Her hands trembled as the cold air pierced her skin.
In the distance, the lights of a black car slowed and stopped in front of her. The window rolled down, and a familiar voice came from behind the wheel.
“Elena!”
Nathan. Of course.
Elena frowned, pretending not to see. She just hugged her bag tightly, pretending to be busy looking at her phone.
Nathan got out of the car carrying a large black umbrella. He walked over quickly, shielding Elena from the rain.
