Chapter 40
“I believe anyone can change. But it takes time. And kids... need more than just promises.”
Delya ran to Damian with a picture. “This is Daddy and me!” she exclaimed.
Damian accepted the picture with glazed eyes—a drawing of two stick figures holding hands under a rainbow.
“Thanks, baby...” he whispered.
For the first time in a long time, Damian felt a small warmth creeping into his heart.
Suddenly, Olivia and Katty arrived. Both of them pulled Delya’s hand.
“Delya, he’s a bad father. You don’t deserve to call him Daddy!” Olivia said.
Damian froze. Not long after, Alva arrived. The five-year-old boy had just woken up. He looked confused.
“Mommy, Big Sister, who is he?” Alva asked, rubbing his eyes.
Damian was still sitting on the couch when Alva appeared in the living room, rubbing his eyes, his steps slow and lazy. The five-year-old boy was wearing dark blue pajamas with rockets, his hair a little messy.
