Chapter 39
The rain was falling harder and harder. Elena was out of sight. All that remained was the small gravestone with David Lancaster’s name engraved on it, and the sound of the rain drowning out any remaining hope.
“Let her go,” Isabella said, this time in a softer tone. “Don’t add new wounds to the existing ones.”
Damian looked down. His breathing was heavy. He said no more.

Hours later, Nathan caught up with Elena in the car that was waiting for him outside the cemetery.
“Are you sure you won’t give your ex-husband a second chance?” Nathan asked quietly.
Elena wiped her cheeks with a tissue. “No, I have no reason to forgive him.”
Nathan nodded. “All right. I’ll take you home.”
As the car drove slowly away from the cemetery, Elena looked out the window. She saw Damian’s silhouette standing alone in front of David’s grave, drenched in rain.
