We caught each other’s eyes and couldn’t help but grin. Elias settled back into his leather chair with a contented sigh, while I hopped up onto the edge of the polished conference table, crossing my legs at the ankles. The late-afternoon sunlight filtering through the tall windows painted golden highlights across the room, accentuating the triumphant mood that hung between us.
“New face of Portland Hotels, huh? Not bad,” I teased, rocking slightly on the balls of my feet.
He shot me a playful look—one eyebrow arched as if daring me to take all the credit—and then leaned his head back against the chair’s high backrest. “You know it’s all because of you,” he said, his voice low and warm.
