Maya’s POV
“We are more focused on improving our current services. But make no mistake, Brooks is far from falling behind in this industry.”
That was all Richard Brooks, my ex–father-in-law, had to say before he stepped off the set and into his waiting limo. I fought back a laugh as the room fell utterly silent, everyone glued to the morning news.
I glanced at Elias, perched on the edge of the conference table, remote pressed to his lips and a self-satisfied grin plastered across his face. Behind him sat the entire Hart executive committee, each member wearing the same pleased expression while they watched Brooks’s interview.
Of course, Elias shone brightest of all. His eyes sparkled as the screen’s corner displayed Hart’s market ratings and the bold headline:
