Chapter 61
Maya’s POV
I practically sprinted down the corridor toward Elias’s office, clutching this morning’s tabloids and broadsheets in one hand and the freshly printed articles in the other. When I pushed open the door, the room was empty—his laptop still open on the desk, a stack of unfinished documents fanned out beside it. Surely he hadn’t left already. Maybe he’d ducked into the bathroom?
“Elias?” I called out, my voice echoing once, then again. Just as I was about to try a third time, a muffled reply drifted from his private chamber.
“Be right there.”
That struck me as odd. He almost never used that little annex during office hours. It was set up like a compact apartment for the rare nights he stayed late, and since we got married, he hadn’t spent a single night there.
