Chapter 60

Maya’s POV

We got home in under an hour. Why do my arms and legs feel like lead after just one dance? Well, I did have several emotionally draining run-ins and that tense moment with Elias on the bench, not to mention the mental rollercoaster of pretending everything was fine all night.

“That was quite the long night,” Elias said with a laugh, tossing his coat, mask, and tie onto the table.

I eased onto the couch. “Yeah. Definitely.”

He sighed and sat beside me. “You just met the two people you loathe most in this world. Are you… okay?”

I braced for anger over Adrian, but his genuine concern made my chest tighten. Am I okay? Honestly, I’m not sure. I feel rage and anxiety, but also pride and satisfaction. Altogether, somewhat balanced. “I’m fine,” I said.
