Maya’s POV
I finally woke up to my alarm. It was seven o’clock in the morning, and I had to get ready for work. I climbed out of bed, changed into a dark blue skirt and a long-sleeved white blouse, piled my golden-blonde hair into a neat bun, and applied a touch of makeup—I needed to look more awake than I felt.
Last night had been mercilessly sleepless. Anxiety had kept me on edge, and every little sound made me jump. I’d thought about calling Elias, but I didn’t want to wake him. Besides, I kept telling myself it was all in my head—if anything serious had happened, Christopher would have alerted me.
