“I am afraid he’ll have to be off school for at least a month.”
“If that’s what you consider as the best solution in the current situation, then yes- of course, Sir.”
My mother’s face is serious, and only a slight tint of sadness darkens her bright blue eyes a shade deeper. I glance at her. She is not even furious, I know that. I can hear it in the way her heart beats.
She’s simply disappointed. And tired.
I mean, who wouldn’t be in her place? It’s happened for the third time in the past few months.
“Do you….” the headmaster looks nervously between the two of us- me with my bloodied T-shirt and hands, and my mother- and fixes the thick glasses back on his nose, “No, never mind. I was just expecting you’d ask what happened and why he is off school.”
