“Tell me,” Nathan asked impatiently.

“Not until I’m certain that my family is safe,” Jeromy said to Nathan.

Nathan tried to persuade him into speaking just then, he could not wait to hear who it was that was calling the shots.

“Your family can only be safe if you speak up now,” Nathan said to Jeromy.

Jeromy knew the kind of person he was dealing with so no matter what Nathan said, no matter how hard he tried to convince him, Jeromy still refused to speak, not until his demands were met.

“I can’t jeopardize the safety of my wife and kids, I hope you can understand me.”

Nathan didn’t know how important family was before but now he did. He understood Jeromy’s fears and concerns. Nathan understood that Jeromy was being threatened and forced to do things against his will.

But there was one thing Nathan still wanted to know. Nathan asked:

“Is this person close to me?”

Even the detective waited to hear what Jeromy’s response would be.
