Chapter 60
Madison got home to find Nathan seated at the bar table in their mansion. Since his grandfather's passing, that has become his favorite spot.
“Hey, Maddie,” his voice showed he was almost not sober.
“Are you drinking again?” she asked with great concern for his health. He had not been eating regularly except when persuaded to do so, but he was consuming more than excessive liquor day in and day out.
“Why are you doing this, Nathan?” Madison questioned with sufficient traces of sadness and distraught in her voice.
“Just leave me alone, Maddie,” he said as he attempted to gulp more of what had been keeping him going.
“Give me that!” Madison snatched both the bottle and glass from his hand. She quickly remembered she had left the kids together with him at home.
“I have to check on the kids,” she informed him before she left. “I’ll be back soon, Nathan.” Madison took the wine along with her, and she disposed of it in the trash bin before going into th
