“He has congenital heart disease.” The doctor says and my face twists in confusion.
“What does that mean?” My mother and I ask at the same time.
“You have a hole in your heart, Quincy.” The doctor's words echos in my ears.

I have a hole in my heart? Is that even possible?
“How am I alive?” I ask him and he breathes out a sigh.
“You must have had surgery when you were young.” The doctor says as he looks at my mother. “It would been better if both parents were here.”
“I don’t remember having any form of surgery in my entire life,” I say to him and he smiles supportingly.
“You would have not if you were a baby, Quincy.” He replies to me and it takes a few seconds for me to take all this in.
So I have a literal hole in my heart?
How?
I have felt normal all my life and have rarely been in hospitals. Dad or mom didn’t tell me about any heart conditions either.
