“I don’t know.” She says and I squint my eyes at her. “I’m going for a wedding.” She says.

“Oh, that’s great. Whose?” I ask her, not knowing that what she’s about to say is going to break my heart even though I have not even given it to her yet.

“Mine.” She says as she avoids eye contact with me. “I’m getting married tomorrow.”

I chuckle and she looks at me with a serious face.

“You’re joking, right?” I ask her and she shakes her head.

“I’m not, and you should take it seriously.” She says, and I can tell she’s annoyed that I laughed.

“I am,” I say as I try to sit up. “I am taking this seriously, but this is just...” I struggle to find the right words to say.

“Surprising?” She helps me out and I nod.
