Chapter 60

“Sterling, what about him?” I ask her hopefully and she shakes her head.

“We just can’t leave him here,” I say and I can feel the strain in my voice. I feel like crying.

“We have to, it’s just for a while. We will tell the police everything as soon as we are safe.” She extends her hand to me and I look at it as if it’s an alien.

“Rose,” She says my name and I look at her eyes. They look alarmed but yet trusting.

I take it and she helps me stand. I then follow her as she begins to walk into the forest area. We are surrounded now by tall trees that I have maybe stood here for a decade or more.

“Where are we going?” I ask her as I walk on the wet ground. It’s not snowing anymore but the air is still freezing. It feels very weird walking without shoes.

When walking in the snow, I think it’s slightly better if I can manage the numbing cold of the snow. But now that I’m in a small jungle, though it may not be, walking here barefooted
