Conrad's POV

"Why did my father go out to the patio to talk to Gwen? I thought he liked her."

"It's not about him not liking her, sweetheart. Sometimes as parents, we want to get to know the people who are involved with our children."

"My dad has never been interested in that kind of thing," I comment.

We arrived at my parents' house two hours ago. We ate and talked about my future plans. Mom warmly and lovingly welcomed Gwen. They went to the kitchen for a while and talked about desserts, foods they dislike, or things that happened in my mother's youth. Meanwhile, Dad talked to me about what I needed to do to succeed with a bar. He explained ways to have better organization and told me it was necessary to be sure of what I wanted. He even offered financial help. I was going to keep it a secret from them, but I wanted to tell them so they would know what I was doing.
