Chapter 9. Rescue

Aria tugged her away from the carnage but Carla's eyes were locked on the beast that suddenly exploded in a cloud of smoke and disappeared.

"Holy sh*t," she exclaimed and the other two turned back to see the cause of her surprise.

"Where did it go?" Whispered Stephanie as they searched the empty clearing for the hulking beast.

"It disappeared in a cloud of smoke like..."

"Magic?" Aria supplied and the blonde nodded, dumbly.

"I guess we don't need to run now," Stephanie said with a thankful smile and turned around to stare into the forest and gasped in shock.

Both girls turned and were met with the sight of the missing creature, staring down at them with wide hungry eyes and a grinning drooling mouth. 

A moment of silence hovered over them as their fear froze the girls on the spot. The beast huffed, a blast of air so strong it nearly knocked them off their feet and managed to bring them back to reality.
