My body has mostly healed despite the meagre food and rest I’m surviving on. Shifter healing could do wonders especially in the direst of circumstances. With my head clear, I’m able to be alert and pay attention to our surroundings during travel. We journey through the night and set camp during the day as vampires prefer to be out at night. Unlike the myths where vampires supposedly burst into flames under the sun, the light merely annoys them, the bad ones, anyway, so they try to avoid it as much as they can.

One of them stays on guard while the others rest in a tent. They previously would lock us in the semi-truck while they would sleep before they realized how dangerous it is right now because of an unusual warm front. The unbearable heat in the vehicle in the afternoon with us all squished together like sardines results in limited oxygen supply. One of the humans almost got heat stroke, and now we’re allowed to take naps on the forest floor as
