Book 4: A Little Room

We stay in the rain for an hour. I walk ahead of Faye but turn to keep an eye on her as she picks her way off the road into an overgrown easement. I’ve lost the scent I was following with Lowe earlier. It was a vampire, for sure. A group, we believe. At least two females and a trio of males had been on this road at one point, outside of a vehicle, in a gathering. 

But Faye’s scent is long gone, making this trip pointless. 

We reach the place she was found, and she stops, realizing it without me having to show her. 

A few feet of brush have been beaten down, grass turned to mud. She stares down at the spot, her eyes wide and full of confusion. I can tell she’s trying to remember, but can’t, and it’s killing her that she knows this spot and not the events that led her to being left here, nearly dead, and alone.
