“No, her body hasn’t been found. Not exactly,” Queen Emory says, shifting her weight in the chair opposite mine. “That’s what they were fighting about, actually. Michael wants to send some warriors into the mountains to hunt her down, or find her body, whichever comes first, just to be sure.”

“And what about Cole?” I ask the question as emotionless as possible, considering what I know about Michael's cousin at the moment--which is more than I did before the incident with Mathilde. A lot more.

She sighs, rolling her eyes to the ceiling before closing them. “I’m not sure what his problem is, but Cole is often just mad at the world in general.”

“He’s upset because Emelda got hurt,” I whisper, remembering his choked concern in the aftermath of the fire. I wonder if my statement will make any sense to her and soon see in her eyes that it does not.
