Chapter 10
The crisp July air whipped through the open door of the car, slapping Ashley in the face. She ran her hands quickly through her face until her vision became very clear. A confused Charlotte was sitting beside her in the car. There was an awkward aloofness in her eyes.
“What happened here?” Ashley asked, looking around perplexed.
She found a sad-eyed Alex sitting behind the car in the passenger’s seat. He was biting his nails, barely paying attention to what was happening around him.
“You slept off on the steering of the car,” Charlotte offered. “What happened to you, mommy?”
Ashley sighed, the memories beginning to flood her mind. She felt a sharp pain in her head. With her face bent into an arch so she could see her reflection properly in the rearview mirror, she studied her face and pushed back some wisps of hair that had fallen over her face.
