Chapter 12

Detective Mia Martinez stared straight ahead as if the information she had just received had dulled her senses completely. Her partner looked more coordinated. He glanced quickly at her, and together, they nodded at each other.

Ashley looked lost in the scene she was witnessing. Why hadn’t her husband mentioned it the whole time? It seemed the most logical thing to do. It would have at least given them time to discuss it first before he went ahead and spilled it to the detectives. For all she knew, it could have been just a coincidence, a mad coincidence.

She looked over at the faces of the detectives. Something told her these detectives were going to hunt down the Millers like hound dogs.

After what seemed to take an eternity, Detective Martinez finally found her voice.

“Thank you,” she said, her voice sounding heavy. “I guess we’ll have to pay a visit to the Millers once again.”

Elliot merely stared, suddenly swallowing his words. One look from his wi
