Chapter 32. Left Behind
Levi’s POV
The war map blurred in front of my eyes. I am no longer seeing the neat lines of ink marking Summer Pack patrol routes, or the circles Lennox had drawn around the cages where human women were kept.
I am seeing the past. Fire. Smoke. Screaming. My own hands, dragging women by their arms as they kick and sob.
I was one of them once. The monster at their door. They won’t trust me now. Why would they?
Visions of us being caught flash behind my eyes. Lotus being dragged and tossed into a cage. I can’t bite down the bile that rises from my stomach at the thought.
Lennox taps the map, and my stomach twists. “We go in here, through the eastern ridge. Minimal patrols. I’ll take point. Levi, you break the cages. Louis, you…”
“No.” My voice is harsher than I intended. “Louis stays here. With Lotus.”
Louis’s jaw tightens. “You think hiding her away is the answer?”
“She’s not ready,” I snap. “She barely understands her power.”
