“Well, are you free to go out with me?” Damon’s words made me look at him in surprise. Was he asking me out on a date? I doubted it.

“Olivia will be fussy if I leave her for too long,” I lied again, noticing the slight sadness that crossed Damon’s face.

“It won’t take much time. And we’ll be going at night, not right now,” Damon insisted. Maybe there was something important he needed to discuss. For the past six months, our conversations had been limited to small talk, and he constantly checked on my well-being after my therapist reported my progress to him. I had been diagnosed with PTSD, which was slowly healing.

“Stella,” Damon called my name, bringing me back to the present.

“I’ll go,” I finally answered, leaving quickly before he could ask if I was really okay. I was growing tired of his constant concern.
