Chapter 32. The Sacrifice
After a long wait, the night finally arrives, the light from the flame torch casting a yellow shade inside the cave. The winds grow colder, and the sound of creaking insects becomes prevalent. Having remained in silence after the conversation with the warrior, we have resorted to lots of sleep and rest to ease our pains and bruises, especially me.
At this hour, I force myself to tend to Tamarh’s wound lest it gets infected. I had woken her up, helping her sit up, and torn out a fresh piece of fabric to lace the wound.
“Why are you so kind to me?” She asks me for the umpteenth time today. This time, I ignore her, focusing on the task at hand while kneeling on the sand. I gently help her rest her back on the rock wall and remove strands of hair from her face. What bothers me is the conversation she had earlier today, but since I cannot outrightly ask her, I begin to plot in silence.
