Chapter 8. A God to Egypt
PRESENT
A tired sun casts a pale-orange hue upon the land as we ride on the plains of Mamre, full of dry grasses and stones. The sound of chanting soldiers and hoofs of horses rupture the serenity. I notice the rocks littered here and there, marked with colorful dyes—signs that we are dangerously close to the territory of the Amorites.
“Come on!” Karen groans, “run until your heart gives up...” She pleads with her horse, which keeps slowing down.
