Chapter 16. Karma
She flaps the rein of her horse, halting its movement and untying the flap. Jumping down, she ambles forward with her gaze scanning the area. The Mountain Men make way for her to walk into our midst, and the sudden cessation of sounds makes it seem like everyone has been waiting for her arrival. She stops, her wandering gaze halting on Micah’s corpse, which lies in a pool of blood.
“Karen!” Simchin cries, and she sees him struggling with Braheem in a futile attempt to break free. Her face turns red, her head tilting to an angle.
“What happened here?” She asks, looking at me. I open my mouth to explain, but my voice ceases. I burst into tears, weeping like a lost child. She shakes her head, walks over to Micah’s body, and squats to examine it.
“Micah, quit being naughty. Wake up.” She shakes it but gets no response. I cannot tell what is going on in her head, but as soon as blood pours out fr
