After laughing at both my and Asher’s—no, Ashton’s—ridiculous hairstyles, reality hit me like a slap to the face. I remembered everything I had read in Ashton’s diary—everything that was bound to happen—and just like that, the laughter dissolved into tears again.
I buried my face in my hands, sobbing, overwhelmed by the emotions washing over me. Through the muffled sounds of my crying, I heard Ashton let out a long, exasperated sigh. Even without looking, I could feel him shifting awkwardly beside me, probably torn between worrying and being utterly confused. Just a second ago, I was laughing like a maniac, and now here I was, bawling my eyes out again.
“How long are you here for this time?” Ashton asked softly, the concern evident in his voice. “Do… do you know? Last time you came back to our first life… it was only two hours.”
His words sent a jolt through me. I realized I didn’t have the luxury of time. I had no idea how long I’d be able to stay
