Even though I didn’t return to the present after two hours, I never got the chance to talk to Ashton any more about our plan to hire a hitman to be able to catch the stalker. Kate’s parents—Mom and Dad—stayed by my side the entire time, eventually sending Ashton home.

Now, I sat by the window, stubbornly willing myself to fall asleep. Mom and Dad were both fast asleep on the couch, their quiet breathing filling the dimly lit room. The lights were off, and the only glow came from the moonlight streaming through the thin curtains and the streetlight outside casting shadows on the walls.

If I were in the present time, I’d probably still be glued to my phone, chatting with Ashton. We’d be talking about our plan—hiring a hitman to track down the stalker after Dylan and me.
