Our conversation was abruptly cut short when a page came through for Doc Ken, calling him to assist with a patient.
“All right, I’ll save the rest of my gossip for next time! If you want the full details about Kade’s case, just search for it—there are plenty of articles online!” he said with a wave, his usual playful tone intact. He didn’t wait for my response, already walking away briskly. I gave him a quick nod and waved back, watching as he disappeared down the hallway.
Left alone, I sat on the cold metal bench, staring into nothingness as my thoughts swirled. The weight of everything I’d just learned hung heavy on me, clouding my focus.
“Asher, stop overthinking.” I told myself firmly. “You can deal with this later—after your shift. You’re in the hospital, on duty, and there are patients who need you. This isn’t the time to let your fears and anxieties take over.”
