Around 4 PM, Doc Ken, Paige, and Sarah finally decided it was time to head back to Parkertown. I walked them downstairs, my steps slow, as if dragging out the goodbye, even though I knew they’d be fine. The late afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow over the streets, and a soft breeze brushed against my skin as I turned to Zac, who was standing beside me with his hands tucked into his pockets.

“I’m heading back too,” he said, his voice laced with hesitation, like he didn’t really want to leave.

“Already?” I tilted my head, unable to hide the slight pout on my lips.

He let out a chuckle, reaching out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “Czar asked me for a favor,” he explained. “And you know how she gets when I don’t do what she asks. She’ll hold it over my head forever.”

I sighed dramatically but nodded. “Fine. But don’t let her boss you around too much.”
