Chapter 99. A Time Turner

After that conversation with Lee, which was filled with tears, we both felt our stomachs growling from hunger, so we quickly walked to the nearest fast food chain. This place was our go-to spot when we were hungry because the food was not only cheap but also had decent servings.
We ate quickly because we both wanted to get home soon, as it was starting to get late, and biking in the dark in Parkertown was a bit scary. Even though the area was generally safe, the isolation and the folkloric tales about Denzian creatures roaming at night made us uneasy. This was my third life, but so far, I had never seen or experienced those creatures from the tales, and I didn’t think I ever wanted to. That would be terrifying!
After eating, Lee and I got on our bikes and started pedaling home. We kept pace with each other—when I noticed I was getting ahead and she was falling behind, I would slow down to wait for her, and she did the same for me.
