The corpse of one of the patrollers had also been found. Whoever killed the guard took his weapon, making it look like Damien had sent out the order. Could this person be from our pack?, After all, the patroller's body was found at the pack border. It could easily be an outsider; maybe he or she had tried breaking into the pack, but the patroller had been in his way, and had to be killed.
Still, that didn't make sense.
I walked back to the pack, escorted by a brown-haired soldier; he had been close friends with the deceased soldier. I had requested that he escort me back.
"Can I ask you some questions?" I asked him, and he seemed surprised that I had spoken to him. I could see the grief in his red slightly-swollen eyes; the fact that he had to be strong and brush it off like the death of his close friend was nothing was very sad.
