They had grave respect for the patriarch of the Fletcher family who had provided them with a stable income over the decades. Most of the families have been working at the Mill since the time of Darcy’s great-grandfather and the generation that followed them.
“Miss Darcy,” he observed politely. “It’s been days seeing you coming here like this. I have given a lot to see the opening of the mill again and did not expect you to work for a stranger in your own company. But I guess…”
Darcy caught her lower lip between her teeth and did not know how to explain to him that she was just working temporarily.
“It's not so very different, Mr. Lebo,” she pointed out.
“I did the office before in my father’s office and I shall be doing the same sort of work now.”
