Chapter 35. Accelerated Heart (2)

I sigh, closing my eyes and embracing her back with my free arm. My heart starts racing again, almost wanting to burst out of my chest, but I am aware that it is all euphoria.

It's love.

"I missed you, mother," I say. I feel her pull away slightly, and then, with her eyes still smiling, she notices the baby.

"Oh, whose little one is this?" she strokes Jiwan's cheek, eliciting a delightful laugh from him.

"First, let's sit down," I suggest, pointing to the bench. She sits back down, and then I look back at Chae, who is standing behind me. I wave him over with my hand. "Mother, this is Chae SeokDae. He is my fiancé."

"Oh!" she stands up again and smiles at Chae. "So handsome... How long have you been together?"

"Three months," Chae and I speak simultaneously and smile at each other. My mother gazes at us with a hint of confusion, but I take the lead and speak again.
