Chapter 13
Mara’s POV
Black Hollow disappeared behind us under a pale winter sky. I sat in the front carriage with Ronan and Tamsin. Ronan had finally stopped treating me like luggage that might break in transit, though he still watched every rut in the road as if the carriage meant to assassinate me.
His shoulder had been rebandaged before we left. His side was worse.
“You’re staring,” he said.
“I’m checking whether you’re bleeding through your coat again.”
“That is still staring.”
“Then stop giving me material.”
Tamsin hid a smile behind the route map. Ronan reached into the basket between us and offered me an apple.
“An attempt to distract the attending physician?” I asked.
