I feel a wave of rage surge through me. "Excuse me?" I ask her, completely taken aback.
"Listen, Via, take this as a life lesson from an adult woman," she hesitates. "To succeed in life, you don't have to put your body out there. Such things give the impression that women are only useful for one thing. You may not have a mother to help you understand these things, but—"
I cut her off abruptly. "Are you implying that I've been dressing like a whore on school campus grounds to pass my classes?" I give her a wide-eyed stare.
"Via, keep your voice down," she blushes. "I was trying to give you advice, I didn't mean it that way. From—"
Again, I interrupted her. "From a woman to a little girl?" I chuckle at her ignorance.
"Ms. Adams, I'm turning nineteen soon. I'm not a child. I am more than capable of handling things on my own," I declare firmly.
