Chapter 30
Chloe’s POV
I dreamed that Drake was leaving me.
It did not start dramatically. There was no shouting or anger. That was what made it worse.
In the dream, I was standing in the safe house living room, barefoot, wearing one of his shirts. The house looked brighter than usual, empty in a way that echoed. Drake stood near the door, calm and distant, adjusting his jacket like he was about to leave for work.
“Where are you going?” I asked him.
He did not look at me.
“I cannot do this anymore,” he said.
My chest tightened even in the dream. “Do what?”
“Us,” he replied simply.
I walked toward him, panic rising. “You said you would protect me. You said I was safe with you.”
He finally looked at me then, but his eyes were cold. Empty.
“You were never meant to stay,” he said. “You were temporary.”
I reached for him, but my hands went straight through his arm like smoke. He stepped outside. The door closed. The soun
