Chapter 57
I walked back to Macy's room, hoping to find solace in her presence. But when I got there, the nurse told me that her condition had worsened, and she was now in critical condition.
I sat by her side, holding her hand and watching her chest rise and fall with each breath. I didn't want to leave her, but I knew I had to. As I stood up to go, she stirred and looked up at me.
"Don't leave," she whispered.
"I won't," I promised, sitting back down beside her.
I stayed there, holding her hand, until she fell asleep. But even then, I couldn't bring myself to leave. The thought of leaving her alone in that hospital room, with Rojas lurking outside, filled me with dread.
Hours passed by, and I couldn't shake the feeling of dread that hung over me like a dark cloud. I tried calling Reina, but she kept hanging up on me. I didn't know what else to do.
