Chapter 2
“The General is happy you’re coming home,” Peyton said as he turned onto their long and dusty drive way.
“I doubt that,” she muttered as she watched the brown hay fields creep by. It was the beginning of July and the hay had been cut and baled for weeks now. She knew without a doubt the grass would crunch beneath her feet. It was the same every summer. However, it did look a shade greener than normal.
“Has it rained much?”
“Yeah, actually it’s rained more than normal this year.”
“Oh.” That was her only response because her attention was pulled to the two men standing in the back of a flatbed truck in front of the barn. Her eyes went wide. From the distance she couldn’t tell who they were, but she could most definitely tell they were built like brick houses.
Tan skin and rippling muscles glistened under sweat-slicked torsos. Ball caps were pulled low over their eyes, shielding the brutal summer sun. Her door was suddenly yanked open and she looked around
