Rock Hard. Book 1. Chapter 1
Dallas stared out the tiny round window as the plane made its final decent over the dusty and dry state of her origin. She hadn’t set foot in her home state in eight years and she could see it was hot. Already she was longing for the mild days she’d just left behind. She had no idea how she could even see the hot air, but she could. Her heart hammered in her chest and there was a slight pounding in her head from the rushing blood that surged to her brain. Perhaps if she closed her eyes and wished hard enough, she would still be in her apartment in Tuscany, painting and sketching for tourists, towns folk and whomever else wandered by.
When she opened them, she was slapped hard in the face with reality. She was back in Texas, and after about a two-hour drive from the airport, she would be back at her father’s place. The rather large man beside her snorted loudly in his sleep, causing her to tear her eyes away from the window. She looked at him in disgust as a stream of drool lea
