Something about the words was so soothing, the tears instantly stopped. “Okay, Brett. I’m sorry.”

“This has been a really emotional night. It’s okay to lose it a little. Just get ready though because now we both have to give our statements. Let’s just get through this night and I promise you, tomorrow we can relax all day and not even leave the bedroom.”

“That sounds perfect,” she agreed as they pulled into the police station. She took a moment to wipe her face and fix her eye makeup so that it wasn’t quite so obvious that she’d been crying. Once inside the station, she was unnerved to see that she could actually see Mark through a window as he was being fingerprinted and having his mug shot taken.
