“I got an interesting text from a friend of mine,” he said as he handed her a plate with a steaming, cheesy sandwich that smelled incredible. “A friend of mine is a public defender, and he’s been assigned to Mark’s case.”
“Oh, wow. That sucks for him.”
“Yeah, it really does. He told me he took one look at the case and knew they’d be losing. They’re actually going to be setting up a plea bargain today. They want to get the whole thing figured out as soon as possible, knowing that he has no choice but to serve some jail time.”
“A plea bargain? Good luck with that,” Cheyanne said, rolling her eyes. “He doesn’t have anything to bargain with.”
“We’ll see,” Brett said. They finished eating and didn’t talk about the case again, moving instead to what they wanted to do with the rest of the day.
