"I thought you were going to stand me up," Sarah Tate teased as Lacey hurried over to her table in the coffee shop. "Rough night?"

"Couldn't sleep." Lacey smothered a yawn as Sarah waved down the waitress. "Coffee and a cherry Danish, please?"

"I have great news," her friend said once they were alone. "Jack's divorce is official. Finally we don't have to sneak around anymore."

"That's wonderful." Lacey felt a special affinity with Sarah, who had been involved for some time with her boss, Jack Wilkes, in Accounting.
