"Welcome to the Java Joint," Lacey Easton said as she offered her latest customer a laminated menu. "We're featuring our espresso happy hour with two for one latte flavor shots. What can I start you off with, sir?"
The burly man didn't even glance at the menu but instead leered at her. "What makes a beautiful woman like you wait tables in a dump like this?"
Lacey forced a smile. "Five bucks an hour plus tips, which are always deeply appreciated. Would you like to try a Cuban coffee? They're half off."
The man shrugged. "Sure, why not?"
