“What the hell are you doing here?” I force the words through my gritted teeth.

And why is Iris with you?

My cousin scoffs at me, her hand finding her hip immediately. “Really? Is that how you greet family?”

Before I’m able to say anything back to her, Liam’s arm comes out to shield me, curling back in order to silently nudge me behind him. I don’t budge, refusing to move to prove to Cambria that I need any sort of protection from her.

She may be a brat and the sole reason my father kicked me out of our home, but that doesn’t mean I’m afraid of her. If anything, she should be afraid of us.

“Ainsley has no family.” Liam’s voice is only slightly above a growl.

Cambria laughs. “Oh, is that what she’s telling everyone? Funny.”

“That’s exactly how it is,” he snaps back. “Family doesn’t abandon each other. Not that yours could pass as something like that in the first place.”
