Snow drifts down from the overcast sky in lazy rivulets, cold and wet against our pelts, while we descend the creaking steps from our cabin.
Up here in the snowy mountains of Tenneth, things are peaceful. Quiet. Much different than that bustling campus Ainsley and I left behind only a few hours ago. Traveling up here had taken only two hours, the distance and location giving way to more freedom than either of us are used to.
Out here, we were free to be together in any way we wanted. To relax from looking over our shoulders for wandering eyes or judgmental looks and the threat of an administration that’d delight in tearing us apart.
Our cabin overlooks a small pond that’s long since frozen over, nestled deep into a wooded area on the backside of an older couple’s property. I’d found the listing on a whim while I’d been deep into my research, trying to find the perfect place for us to retreat to once finals were over.
