Chapter 39. Sleepless Nights
Ainsley
Tossing and turning in my bed after getting off the phone with Liam around midnight frustrates me more than I care to admit.
I’ve never been one to spook easily. I’m a shifter, a predator that isn’t hunted by much aside from my own kind. Getting scared over some imaginary presence that my mind has tricked me into thinking it’s stalking me is silly and impractical.
What human would do something like that? Especially to someone like me?
While I’m able to blend in with human society pretty well for the most part, there’s always a subtle hesitation I’ve noticed in humans when interacting with them. It isn’t hard to miss after catching onto it, their baser instincts kicking in as their gut screams at them into worrying about some perceived threat they can’t quite identify.
Humans are notorious for ignoring their gut instincts, believing themselves to be over reactionary, even when faced with other species like me walking amongst them.
