Chapter 46. Colliding Worlds

“Don’t scream.”
My entire body stiffens at the quiet voice mumbling into my ear. I don’t recognize the tone or the person behind it. But I do recognize the scent.
Shifter. Male.
Outside of the mouth of the alleyway, students pass by us, their voices loud with a lively conversation I can’t quite catch. None of them are any the wiser of what’s going on just twenty feet from them, blissfully ignorant to what lurks in the shadows right here on their campus.
I wish I could be that carefree. Never having to worry about people grabbing me from behind and dragging me behind some dank building where the snow has melted into a mud mixture that stains my shoes.
My first day of classes was supposed to be the start of a new year, free from the stress of the world beyond NGU’s campus. How could my morning have been filled with so much promise, only for it to end like this mere hours later?
